Great golfer, lots of personality: This is how Paige Spiranac portrays herself on Instagram and Co.

Undoubtedly, social media has influenced the daily lives of many people today. Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have become our daily companions as we move through life. Some of the reasons we use social networks are to stay in touch with our loved ones and friends, to express ourselves and to promote our projects or companies. American professional golfer Paige Spiranac is one of the biggest personalities to use social media to promote herself and her work. At the time of writing, she already has 2.8 million followers on Instagram. She is one of the most famous and controversial personalities on the platform.

Who is Paige?

Professional golfer and social media personality Paige Renee Spiranac was born on March 26, 1993 in Colorado. The first sport she played was gymnastics, but an injury drove her to golf. She played golf at the University of Arizona and San Diego State University in college. She was selected to the All-Mountain West Conference in two consecutive seasons, 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. She then led San Diego to the All-Mountain West Conference for the first time in 2015.

Become a professional

In 2015, Paige began playing golf professionally and competed in various golf tournaments such as the Cactus Tour. Her first – and only – victory came at the Orange Tree Country Club in Scottsdale. Early in her golf career, Paige won 5 out of 7 tournaments on the Colorado Junior Golf Circuit. Including the CWGA Junior Stroke Play 2010. At that time, she was celebrated as one of the best junior golfers in the world thanks to her victories in various tournaments.

Player of the Year

Paige was also named West Region Player of the Year twice and was a member of the Future Collegians World Tour, earning her a first-team All-American League selection. These successes helped her get a scholarship to the University of Arizona. As a freshman, Paige only competed in three events for the University of Arizona: the Wildcat Invitational, the Pac-12/SEC Challenge and the Windy City Intercollegiate. Her best score was 73 from 2011 to 2012.

More awards

In her second year at San Diego State University, she won more honors for the Aztecs and herself. In her senior year, Paige helped lead to San Diego's first Mountain West Conference championship. In July 2015, she played in the title match against Brittany Fan, who plays for the University of Colorado Boulder, and won. The Colorado Golf Association hosted the tournament.

Social media personality

In 2015, an article encouraged readers to visit her social media account. The article included photos of Paige from her Instagram account. Just two days after the article was published, her Instagram followers increased to 100,000. Before that, she had less than 10,000 followers. She was then invited to the Omega Dubai Ladies Classic, a professional golf tournament, in December 2016.

popularity

She participated in the playoffs but missed the cut. Nonetheless, the online attention attracted more endorsement deals and sponsorships for Paige. Also, people started following her on Instagram. The ever-growing fan base on social media made Paige even more popular and successful. It caught the attention of major companies and various product advertisers. Additionally, Paige was featured in various sports magazines, although some criticized this.

Appearances in sports magazines

Sports Illustrated and Golf Digest are two of the many sports magazines that have featured Paige in their pages. She has also been writing for Golf Magazine every month since December 2018. She used the attention to promote her anti-bullying campaign and fight for women's right to feel comfortable in their own skin. Paige also shared her experiences of being harassed online by random internet users. She says this motivates her to fight against online harassment.

Endorsement deals

In 2017, PXG (Parsons Xtreme Golf) hired Paige to represent its golf clubs. She did various commercials on television and social media for the company. She also became a brand ambassador for 18Birdies and helped market the brand's golf app across the country. It seemed like Paige was becoming more and more popular, and various companies wanted in on her popularity.

Brand ambassador

The 18Birdies golf app is designed to promote social interaction among golfers and support nationwide competitions. The app's features include GPS capabilities and an extensive database of over 30,000 golf courses. It can also track users' game results and statistics. As her popularity grew, Paige got the chance to sign contracts with Philip Stein Watches and American clothing company Mizzen + Main.

Work with a non-profit organization

In 2017, Paige also became involved with Cybersmile, a nonprofit organization that provides educational programs and advocates against cyberbullying worldwide. When asked what motivated her to join this cause, Paige replied that she was bullied growing up. At the time, she was suffering from an illness that affected the normal growth of her hair. However, her experiences with bullying meant she was aware of the challenge of reaching out to school children.

Huge social media following

Paige's current social media following is comparable to that of other sports stars such as Rickie Fowler, Rory Mcilroy and Jordan Spieth. However, the previous pictures and short videos that she uploaded on her Instagram account are mostly related to her golf career. First, she shared various photos and videos in which she was seen wearing golf attire and promoting golf tricks. She continues to do that.

Your Instagram account

Paige later added various brands to her Instagram account, including those that she herself represented. Over time, Paige added more and more photos, causing controversy among media critics and fans. To be fair, anything you post online can be received either positively or negatively by the public, and you can't please everyone.

Self-expression on social media

The fact that Paige continues to promote herself on social media has drawn criticism, with some questioning what she actually represents as a famous professional golfer. For example, her special appearance on the cover of Golf Digest was heavily criticized. Her critics believe they have good reason to criticize her and her actions, even though she continues to receive support from her many followers and fans.

Few excellent ones

The sports magazine Golf Digest has been around for seven long decades. However, she only featured a total of 23 women on her cover. Of these women, only 11 were professional golfers. Naturally, critics wondered why Paige was featured in the magazine. Her critics claimed that Paige's insufficient golf experience did not warrant the rare and coveted honor of being featured on the magazine's cover.

accusations

ESPN sports commentator Sarah Spain claimed that Paige was only allowed to be featured on the cover of Golf Digest because of her looks and her preference for a certain style of clothing. Additionally, Paige also faced disapproval from other people who accused her of “sexualizing female golf.” Due to the criticism she received, Paige was reportedly hurt, which is a natural and understandable reaction.

Advertising their anti-bullying campaign

She responded to the widespread criticism by using it as an opportunity to promote the anti-bullying campaign in which she takes part. She emphasizes how important it is for a woman to feel comfortable in her own skin. Paige pointed to the coverage in Sports Illustrated and Golf Digest and the harassment she received because of it. She uses this experience to motivate herself even more to continue fighting against online harassment and abuse.

A stricter dress code

In this regard, a stricter dress code was introduced on the LPGA Tour in 2017. In July 2017, certain clothing items were banned for female players on the tour, including leggings, plunging necklines and short skirts. This ban quickly sparked criticism. Fox Sports, for example, argued that the tour's new clothing rules made the LPGA players "slutty." There were other similar comments about the dress code.

Progress in women's golf

Paige responded to the same LPGA dress guidelines released in 2017. In an opinion piece she wrote for Fortune magazine, she argued against the dress code. Her opinion piece was published a few days after the controversial LPGA announcement. The article was titled: “The evolution of women’s golf goes further than our cleavage.” This sparked further discussion among fans and critics of women's golf.

Getting started with podcasting

In early 2020, Paige began podcasting and called it “Playing Around with Paige Renee.” The first episode of the podcast was called “Teeing Off” and was released on February 7, 2020. In a way, the podcast is about Paige's passion for golf and the need for women to be themselves despite the emerging criticism of wearing risqué clothing while playing golf.

Social media presence

Currently, Paige is still posting various photos and videos on her Instagram page. She also has accounts on other platforms such as Twitter, YouTube and TikTok. She is gaining more and more followers and fans on these social media platforms. In addition to her passion for golf, she also shares her love for her dog in her posts. Posts featuring dogs usually receive a lot of love from people.

Advertising for various campaigns

If you look at her posts, you can see the different campaigns she promotes. To date, she has around 2.8 million followers on Instagram, where you can find a series of pictures of Paige holding a golf club. In many of the photos she can be seen in sexy clothing. She also shows off her toned body as she holds a golf club in a pose that suggests the golf ball is about to fly.

Demonstrate golf tricks

Paige has also posted episodes of her podcast on her Instagram page, and many of them have cheeky titles. Nonetheless, these podcast episodes showcase various golf tricks that golf enthusiasts and fans can use to improve their golf knowledge. Paige emphasizes the importance of practicing the skills and she also encourages questions about the golf topics that fans don't understand. It seems like she really wants people to get excited about the sport.

Great fans

Paige is really lucky in that regard. Her fans support her photos and podcasts and write her respectful comments praising her for her beautiful images and playfully asking her questions about the golf tricks she shows in her videos. Her fans also tell her that they copy the golf tricks in her videos and ask her for more golf advice.

Your childhood

Paige was born in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, but grew up in Monument. She did gymnastics as a child and hoped to take part in the Olympic Games. From the sixth grade onwards, thanks to her gymnastics talent, she made it into the elite class. She even received an invitation to the famous Karolyi Ranch. Unfortunately, she injured her kneecap at the age of 12, which prevented her from continuing her gymnastics career.

How she got into golf

Her kneecap injury led her to start playing golf instead. As mentioned, Paige was bullied because of her hair condition. Golf became her much-needed escape because the sport allowed her to separate herself from her classmates. Paige was homeschooled and spent her time in both Scottsdale, Arizona and Monument, Colorado. This allowed her to train for golf, which later helped her get a college scholarship.

your family

Paige's family is of Croatian origin. Dan was on the Pittsburgh Panthers team that won the 1976 college football national championship. Her mother, Annette, on the other hand, was a professional ballerina. Paige's older sister Lexie was part of Stanford's track team and, like Paige, received a college scholarship. In December 2016, Paige became engaged to Steven Tinoco, a former minor league baseball player.

Effective platform

Paige's social media accounts feature videos and photos of her that showcase her beauty and passion for golf. Many people criticize her for wearing risqué clothes, but it must be emphasized that everyone has the right to feel comfortable in the clothes they wear. Social media can be an effective platform to raise awareness of women's empowerment and the importance of respecting different preferences and viewpoints.

Why she loves golf

If you ask Paige what she enjoys most about golf, she will say it is the challenge the sport brings. It's the fact that you don't know what kind of game you're going to have. She even says that it is “the hardest sport ever.” We're not sure, but we know she definitely makes it look easy!

Her best friend

If you look at her Instagram page, you will see that Paige really loves her dog Niko. She often shares photos of him and we are here for her. The pooch is absolutely adorable! As an Australian Cattle Dog mix, Niko goes wherever Paige takes her and she loves going to different places with him. It shows in the photos she shares on social media. So we wouldn't be surprised if some of her Instagram followers are actually Niko's fans first.

A positive influence

Paige was thrilled to be able to speak to young girls as an ambassador for the Cybersmile Foundation. She actually spoke to young female athletes and gave them the opportunity to talk about their personal experiences with bullying. Paige loves making a positive impact on these girls' lives and she understands how they feel because she went through something similar when she was younger.

Struggle with fear

Her struggles with anxiety are something Paige has been open about. She says there are things you can do to deal with anxiety. In her case, she writes in a diary, takes time off from her phone, exercises regularly, and of course, eats healthy! Maybe people who struggle with anxiety can take a page from their book and try doing these things too. You never know. These could work.

Interesting selection of furniture

When you're a popular professional athlete, you can buy practically anything you want. On April 1, Paige posted on Instagram that everyone kept telling her to buy furniture for her house, so she went and got a bouncy castle. Many people may have thought it was an April Fool's joke, but it actually wasn't. She has a bouncy castle! We all secretly wish we had a bouncy castle for ourselves.

Love for Iron Man

Apparently Paige has a geeky side too. She's a huge fan of the Marvel Universe - especially Iron Man! You can see here that she is cozy and ready to read her comics. In her podcast she talks about her nerdy side. Maybe you didn't think she was that kind of girl, but that's exactly why we should never judge a book by its cover. And in this case, the book is Paige.

Girl next door

Many people probably can't imagine Paige relaxing and wearing sweatpants most nights, but she does. She's just like us and certainly doesn't always wear low-cut tops or short dresses. Here she is in a pair of Captain America sweatpants, showing us her love for Marvel. Who says a beautiful girl can't be sexy and have a relaxed personality at the same time? Paige is proof that this is possible

Withdrawn from Pro Golf

In December 2016, Paige retired from professional golf. Nevertheless, she continues to visit the golf course regularly. She also cares about health and fitness. We can't wait to see what she does next. For now, she continues to post regularly about golf. If you want to know more about Paige, you can go to her Instagram page.

Proud

When Paige Spiranac looked back on this period of her life, she had nothing but good things to say. And that's why we can understand why she is considered such a great role model. Although Spiranac didn't start taking golf more seriously until she was 12, she has truly come a very long way since then. We're pretty sure all of her friends, parents, and teammates are super proud of what she's accomplished since then.

A swing in tennis

You may think that Paige is a professional golfer, but we have news for you. She has tried various other sports, including tennis. She actually had an aunt who was a professional tennis player, which is one of the main reasons she picked up a racket and turned to the sport. However, after some time, Paige realized it wasn't for her.

Ronda Rousey is her idol

Paige has often spoken about Ronda Rousey, who she considers her idol. But no, Rousey is not a professional golfer, she is actually a professional wrestler and MMA fighter. According to Paige Spiranac, she believes Rousey is a superwoman. Paige once said that her dream was to be as strong and successful as her idol.

Points docked

This may come as a surprise to many, but even famous athletes have bad days. Paige was in Dubai and unfortunately got caught doing something she wasn't supposed to do. This happened while she was playing a golf tournament, in the middle of the game she took out her phone to take a look at a message. The judges saw the incident and deducted her points for it. This was most likely the main reason why she did not qualify for the next round of the tournament.

She received death threats

Can you believe that Paige Spiranac even received death threats for a while? She received phone calls and text messages on her cell phone and apparently she was criticized for the clothes she wore. People condemned her for wearing “tight, cleavage-baring outfits.” Of course, it wasn't a pleasant experience, especially when she was told to kill herself. This of course had a negative impact on her.

Camera schedule

Not too many people would expect Paige Spiranac to be camera shy. But it actually is her! Despite being so photogenic, she has always loved educating people about the sport, but there are times when her shyness gets in the way of her goal. The good news is that she has worked on this personal problem and has been able to overcome this problem to some extent.
